Jake Dillon is a Marine Corps Major who works for the Office of Public Affairs. Before the war he was a high paid press agent for Metro-Magnum Studio which is paying him his full salary while he is serving the Marines. He is a fast talking individual who does what he has to get the job done and he doesn't question his assignments from the Marine Corps. Before his Guadalcanal assignment, he was dating movie star Veronica Wood. When she learns that he is back in town, she goes to his Malibu beach house, where she finds him with the ailing Bobby Easterbrook and attendant Dawn Morris.
