Chapter 9 Summary

Moore arrives at the Water Lily Cottage with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. He gives the messages to Pickering. The message authorize promotions for Pluto, Moore and Hart. Pickering informs his men of their new promotions. There has been no invasion of Guadalcanal as their reports had indicated and Pickering tells them to find out what is happening. He explains the MAGIC program to Hart, who now has security clearance, and how important it is for the Japanese not to know their codes were broken. The analysis of the MAGIC intercepts are made available to only three people, one of whom is Pickering.

The group discusses the October 18 invasion date and the fact that there has been nothing in the intercepts to contradict that date. The fact that the attack hasn't begun means the Japanese had some problems, probably moving their equipment...
