Chapter 12 Summary

Dunn and Pick are at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. They are stopped by Colonel Porter because of their unkempt looks and the fact that they have been drinking alcohol. He takes them inside and has them empty their pockets. Among the contents, he finds the medals they received the day before. Colonel Porter then orders Captain Carstairs to help them find transportation and to assist them in anyway. They go on to Alabama to visit Dunn's family.

Captain Carstairs arrives at the Dunn home and tells Pick and Dunn that they won't be returning to their units. They are going to train fighter pilots. Carstairs says that he is being sent to the Pacific. Pick is asked to spend a day with the flight students. They have no choice but to accept the invitation.
