Summary

Chapter 21

It was the sound of Beloved going up the stairs that returned Denver’s hearing after losing it when Sethe was going to answer the question about killing her sister. Beloved had always been with Denver in the house. Beloved was there with Denver to wait for her daddy to come home. Denver’s brothers had left the house because they knew what their mother had done and wanted her dead. They taught Denver how to kill their mother if it came to it. They told her they were leaving to go to the war.
