Cora - Chapter 39 Summary

Cora thinks back on her attempts to bring Addie to her church. Despite all of her attempts, Addie refused all of Cora's attempts. Cora even tried to explain to Addie that Jewel was God's punishment on her, but Addie maintained her faith in her son.

Cora - Chapter 39 Analysis

When Cora said that Jewel was Addie's punishment, Addie replied by saying that he would save her from the water and the fire. This is a kind of after shadowing of the event in the river and a foreshadowing of Jewel pulling her body from the burning barn.
