Vardaman - Chapter 24 Summary

The Bundrens prepare to take Addie's body to Jefferson, but everyone seems to have separate agendas for the trip. Jewel goes into the barn and gets on his horse with the intention of riding behind the wagon, Cash brings his tools along in order to work on Tull's barn on the way back, and Dewey Dell gets into the cart with a package that she says contains Cora's cakes, which she intends to sell along the way. However, Anse says that they are all being disrespectful of their mother by putting their own concerns above that of their mother.

Vardaman - Chapter 24 Analysis

Because none of Anse's offspring listen to him, this clearly shows that Addie was the only person holding the family together. Once Addie is gone, Anse's children feel no need to listen to their father.
