Chapter 4 Summary

Shadow Moon and Mr. Wednesday meet for breakfast and talk about where they will be going. Wednesday tells Shadow they will be going to a very important meeting tomorrow night. Wednesday says they will be heading to Chicago, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin. In Chicago, they stop at a brownstone and meet the Zorya sisters. They meet Zorya Vechernyaya, and Wednesday gives her money to get food. They go upstairs and meet Czernobog and Zorya Utrennyaya.

Czernobog tells Shadow about his job in the meatpacking district killing cows with a sledgehammer. Shadow uses the bathroom, and when he comes back, Czernobog is yelling that he won't help Wednesday, but Wednesday tells him there is no other way. Czernobog asks Shadow to play checkers with him.
