Chapter 26 Summary

The three women at 124 are starving to death. Sethe and Beloved are trying to gather strength to fight each other. Denver decides that she has to do something. Sethe saw the scar on Beloved's neck and decided that Beloved was definitely was her child come back from the dead. Sethe stopped going to work and she was fired. Sethe gave Beloved every scrap of food they had. She spent all her savings on bits of ribbon and clothes for Beloved.

At first, all three women played together. Then Sethe's attention turned solely toward Beloved. Sethe made all sorts of fanciful plans, but they all turned into nothing. Then Beloved demanded more, but Sethe merely talked about what she went through for her daughter. Then Beloved demanded even more and Sethe kept giving in......
