Chapter 12 Summary
Denver wants more of Beloved's attention, but Beloved is only giving her attention to Sethe. Sethe thinks that Beloved was locked up by a white man. She also thinks that Beloved hates Paul D. Denver does not tell Sethe about Beloved's visits to Paul in the cold house.
Chapter 12 Analysis
Denver is completely convinced that Beloved is her long dead sister that has come back from the grave. One day in the winter, they go out to the cold house. It is dark inside and Denver cannot find Beloved. She seems to have disappeared completely, even when Denver opens the door to let in more light. Denver is nearly in a panic until she sees Beloved again.
