Chapter 20 Summary

Shadow returns to Lakeside and immediately goes to the car that is waiting to sink into the ice. He opens the truck and finds Allison McGovern's body. The ice under the car breaks and Shadow slides into the water. He sees all the other cars that have been sunk into the lake. Shadow struggles to the surface before passing out. He wakes up in Hinzelmann's home. Hinzelmann tells him he saw him go under and pulled him out.

Shadow confronts Hinzelmann about killing the children and putting them in the cars. Hinzelmann says he did it because he owed Wednesday a debt. Hinzelmann says he gives the children as a sacrifice to keep the town good. Shadow realizes that Hinzelmann wanted Shadow to get caught, so he brought people he knew to the town, like Sam Black Crow and Audrey Burton. Hinzelmann says...
