Chapter 10 Summary

Shadow Moon is dreaming of being a child that is raised in darkness. Eventually, the child is brought out of its hut and sacrificed. Shadow wakes up, but he can't remember this dream. Shadow tries to walk into town, but it's too far and he can't take the cold. A cop named Chad Mulligan, chief of police, picks him up and takes him to eat breakfast at Mabel's restaurant. Mulligan helps Shadow find a car to buy, then takes him shopping for clothes and supplies. He tells Shadow that the town is very peaceful, so he doesn't have much to do as chief of police.

Shadow and Mulligan go to meet Missy Gunther, and Shadow buys her son's purple Toyota 4-runner. When Shadow goes home, Hinzelmann comes to visit and gives him a basket of food. He tells Shadow about the raffle the...
