Summary

In Chapter Twenty-seven, Tess takes Polly’s gym shoes to Connor as Cecilia suggested. As Tess chats with Connor about the school, she thinks about their first kiss. Connor reminds her about the coffee. She suggests they make it a drink instead. He suggests they get together that evening. Tess agrees.

In Chapter Twenty-eight, Cecilia cries in her pantry. The doorbell rings. Cecilia momentarily thinks it is the police, but it is only John-Paul’s mother. She asks how John-Paul is and mentions that he called that morning. Cecilia had insisted that he go to work although he’d not wanted to go. Virginia tells Cecilia she looks worn out.
