Summary

In Chapter Twenty-three, as Tess is walking Liam into the school, Liam tells his mother that he wants to go back home. The principal walks up to Liam just as he starts to cry. She distracts Liam by telling him his new teacher has turned their room into outer space for the Easter egg hunt. He goes with her. Tess is left feeling lost and wondering what she should say to Liam that night.

As Tess is walking back to her mother’s house, Cecilia comes up beside her. Tess notices she’s wearing shoes that don’t match and acting oddly. She says she’s forgotten Polly’s gym shoes at home. Rachel walks up to them, mentioning the party and alcohol the night before as the reason she is walking. Tess wonders if anyone ever looks at Rachel without remembering her...
