Katie/Cadence/Cady

Cadence or "Cady," first known as "Katie," grows in many ways throughout the novel, as she originally completely forgets who she is. She is young, only 16 years old, and knows how to do karate and defend herself against grown men. She can also take being tortured, and she is definitely brave and loyal.

She has a lot of different personas throughout the story, described by other characters, yet none of them are true. She is said to be mentally ill and schizophrenic, and then she is said to be using drugs and stealing, and then she is characterized via Facebook as suicidal and a murderer. However, through these false personas, Cady evolves into someone who is an actress, gets good grades, is loyal, and will do anything to protect her family.
