Chapter 8 Summary

Dr. Halsey arrives in Mendez's office asking where the Spartans are. He explains they had to find new facilities for them to train. As he drives Halsey to Reach, a mountainous region, Mendez explains that the first day back in training, three of the trainees were accidentally killed during combat exercises.

When they arrive, Mendez takes Dr. Halsey into a room surrounded by glass so they can see on to what looks like a football field. Halsey watches as she sees Kelly and then John fight off their trainers using supernatural strength. Mendez updates Halsey on the speed, reaction times and the fact that the Spartans can practically see in the dark from their alterations. She asks if they are ready for combat because the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) wants to send them into battle.
