Chapters 46-54 Summary

"Hopeless" is the title of Chapter 46. Tinkerbell has escaped but has no idea where to look for Peter. She finds little help talking to pigeons, who are only interested in food.

Chapter 47 is called "The Drunken Centipede," referring to the image of Peter and the other prisoners ambling through the streets chained together. Desperate to escape, Peter opens his locket containing some starstuff and touches it to the chain, unsure what will happen. Suddenly he and the other prisoners and the guard Humdrake are filled with a wonderful feeling and begin to rise slowly in the air while people stand below watching in amazement. After a while the starstuff begins to wear off, however, and they start to descend. Peter has bought some time, but he is still trapped.
