Chapters 1-5 Summary

Chapter one is entitled "A Speck on the Horizon." A scrawny red-haired boy named Peter and four other boys who call themselves the "Lost Boys" are on Mollusk Island. Peter, who has the ability to fly, is selecting an overripe mango he intends to drop on Captain Hook, the leader of a band of pirates encamped on the other side of the island. Peter enjoys tormenting the pirates, and he takes off into the air in a dramatic fashion to impress the other boys, who cannot fly.

Peter soars into the sky and takes in the view of the whole island. He is soon joined by another flying creature, a "birdgirl" named Tinkerbell, who speaks in a series of tinkling sounds like small bells. She warns Peter to be careful, but Peter is confident he can avoid being captured by the...
