Chapter 40-45 Summary

Chapter 40 is called "The Fear in Her Eyes." Molly is awakened by Jenna rapping on her bedroom door and goes down to breakfast with her mother. She begins to tell her mother about the incident she witnessed on the street the night before, but they are interrupted by Jenna and she stops talking. Suddenly there is a loud barking sound coming from Hornblower, the large dog that belongs to one of the guards, a man named Hodge. Hornblower is barking at Jarvis and Cadigan, which is unusual because the dog normally obeyed the men. The two men stand impassively. Molly's sense that something is wrong deepens, and she sees a similar fear in her mother's eyes.
