Chapter 19 Summary

The ferry arrives at Staten Island. John goes to a store and buys diapers. Then, he goes to Marie's house, where he and Marie sit and discuss the investigation over coffee. Marie's eleven-month-old is drinking a bottle in a playpen. Her other child is asleep, and Marie informs John that she is pregnant with her third child. Marie and John then talk about the crash. Marie tells John that she was initially involved in the crash investigation and that she was one of the officers who investigated the couple at the Bayview Hotel. John realizes quickly that the FBI agents didn't tell Marie about finding the videotape. While they talk, John calls his coworker Harry Muller and asks him if anyone at work has been looking for John. Muller tells John that the FBI head Jack Koenig asked where John was.
