Chapter 14 Summary

A doctor arrives at the cottage to examine Moore, who has a relapse of malaria from stopping his Atabrine treatment. He also examines Moore's legs and recommends an exercise regime.

Ellen Feller has to find quarter since she is forced to move out of the cottage. There is no Female Bachelor's Quarters that they can move her into so she is sent to a hotel and told to return to the headquarters office in the morning. Ellen blames Banning for the situation. She decides to talk to General Willoughby.

The nurses, Cotter and Miller, are playing gin rummy with Moore when he receives a phone call summoning him to the dungeon. Barbara drives him to the hotel and they return two hours later. Barbara tells Joanne about seeing General MacArthur.
