Chapter 8 Summary

Pick is in San Francisco dining with his grandfather, Andrew Foster. He tells his grandfather that he will be leaving for the VMF-229 fighter squadron on Guadalcanal. Foster tells Pick that he recently had dinner with a squadron commander named Galloway. They receive a call from McCoy saying that Fleming is in Walter Reed Hospital with malaria. Pick says he will tell his mother.

Ken McCoy reports to Temporary Building T-2032 where Colonel Richabee's office is located. Rickabee has orders for Hart to travel San Francisco to tell Pick of his father's condition.

Hart arrives in San Francisco. While looking for Pick, he calls Andrew Foster, who wants to hear the story of what happened to Fleming. Foster tells Hart, who is at the airport, to go to the hangar where the Foster plane is. Pick should be there and that is where...
