Chapter 7 Summary

Koffler wakes alarmed because it is strangely quiet. He grabs his gun and runs into the jungle and watches the camp. Then he climbs to the tree house platform where he finds Ian and Patience. They tell him that the remaining people have gone into hiding since they think Lieutenant Reeves and the group who went for food have been captured.

Ken McCoy arrives at Parris Island. Moore is with him. They secure rooms at the Bachelor Officer's Quarters. A friend of McCoy, Sergeant Major Teddy Osgood is there. McCoy is there to recruit men and Osgood tells him about some of the men he should consider, one of whom was Private George Hart.

Hart is summoned at midnight to meet McCoy. He is not told what it is about. McCoy interviews him, asking about his police work and decides he is right...
