Nancy's Town, South Carolina

Nancy's hometown is not named but she clearly lives in a fairly normal American suburb in the south.

Nancy's House

Most of the major events in the book happen at or near Nancy's house. She is raped in her home, makes most of her diary entries in her home, and spends most of her time when she is sick at home.

Nancy's High School

Nancy is happy and well-liked at her high school with several close friends and a popular boyfriend. When her school finds out she has AIDS, they are initially afraid of her but the school nurse talks them down and they are kind to her. However, a few boys do make fun of her one day. They are quickly suspended.
