Point of View

Guantanamo Boy by Anna Perera is a story told entirely in the first person perspective by the main character, Khalid Ahmed. Khalid is a fifteen year old boy who lives in Rochdale located near Manchester, England. He has lived there all of his life and his parents, while Muslim, are not rigid in their religious beliefs or behaviors. When Khalid’s Aunt dies, his family makes the decision to go to Pakistan to help the remaining family members. When his father goes missing in Karachi, Khalid goes out to search for him but is unsuccessful. The family has no idea what has happened to him, and friends, neighbors and family gather together to help in any way they can.
