Summary

In Chapter 22, Diana and Matthew travel out of the city. Matthew reveals Baldwin's order to kill Jack and the discoveries in the lab that show a DNA code that determines which vampires are going to develop the blood rage, and that it is incurable. Diana and Matthew argue with Matthew saying they need Baldwin's protection and Diana saying they cannot trust Baldwin to protect them. Diana insists that forming a scion with Matthew as its head is the only way forward and he reluctantly agrees. To do so, he needs to go to New Orleans to convince Marcus's remaining children to join him. He insists Diana remain behind for fear she will get hurt if the process turns violent.
