Summary

Chapter 12 takes place on Diana's birthday. She and Matthew spend time together in bed that morning and she later waters the flowers. Her friend and colleague Chris Roberts arrives, angry because she has not responded to phone calls or emails. He is surprised she is pregnant and sad that Emily died. He consoles Sarah and she allows it, which Diana sees as a sign she is beginning to live again, though she is still deeply grieving. Diana makes the decision to tell Chris the truth about herself and the others. He cites his role as a scientist to explain why he is willing to accept that vampires, witches, and daemons are real, and is curious about what Diana learned during her trip to the past.
