Summary

Chapter 8 reverts to an omniscient perspective. Fernando and Matthew talk about the situation with Fernando asking why Matthew is staying at the Bishop house when he should be finding Benjamin. Matthew says he is obeying Baldwin and Fernando clearly believes Matthew is being overly cautious. Matthew reveals he is trying not to do anything that would jeopardize Diana's standing in the de Clermont family. Miriam calls and she and Matthew discuss Diana's DNA, which Miriam has been analyzing for months. She is intrigued by the fact that Diana's familiar is a firedrake.

Vivian Harrison arrives and ignores the fact that Matthew and Fernando are vampires. She pushes Sarah for the truth about Emily's death. Sarah told them Emily died of a heart attack and now says the situation is too dangerous to involve the coven. Vivian says they are planning to celebrate Lughnasadh...
