Jealousy

Jealousy plays such a predominant role in this novel that Chapter 11 is even titled after this particular theme. While some examples of jealousy are quite explicit, others are more implicit, so it is not until later in the novel that most readers will recognize these instances of jealousy. In the second chapter, Abby's reaction to Travis kicking a girl he just had sex with out of his apartment could be construed as jealousy, but Travis chasing Ethan away from Abby in the next chapter is definitive jealousy. Travis also becomes jealous when Abby starts dating Parker, leading to suggesting the bet that forces Abby to stay at his apartment for a month. He continually interrupts Abby's dates and mocks Parker, and when he catches them making out in the parking lot, he has a total conniption.
