Chapter 5: Parker Hayes

Travis compliments Abby's dress when he picks her up, but she intends for Parker to notice her. At the party, Travis gets a drink for Abby, warning her not to drink anything that does not come from him or Shepley. After an hour passes without Parker showing up, Travis asks Abby to dance, his sadness at her refusal changing to anger when Parker joins them. Abby accompanies Parker to the balcony upstairs where they discuss school and her unusual friendship with Travis. As the party ends, Parker offers to drive Abby home, forcing her to explain the bet with Travis who objects when Abby says she is riding with Parker, even threatening to kill Parker if he touches Abby.
