Summary

The morning of Rathana, Laia goes over the plan with Afya. Afya warns Laia that if they do rescue Darin, he might be changed by the torture he has endured. Making herself invisible, Laia watches as Martials throw Scholar corpses into a mass grave outside the prison. She then sneaks inside the prison kitchen, where children are doing chores, and whispers to Bee to start a fire in fifteen minutes. Laia notices a Mask inspecting one of the pillars inside the prison, which she has coated with oil to spread the fire. She picks up a torch to throw at him, but the effort causes her invisibility to falter. The guard thinks Laia is a witch.

The Warden enters the kitchen. Laia regains her invisibility and begins throwing cans of oil and torches. As the fire spreads, the Warden delivers...
