Summary

In Chapter 6, Laia and Elias ride a horse away from the city while Laia ponders why the Commandment let them escape alive. A creature called a wraith attacks them and again demands silver. They escape and Laia informs Elias of her past as they ride the horse across a desert. Elias knows that Keenan, another rebel member of the Resistance, kissed Laia before. He asks who had initiated the kiss. Before Laia can respond, Elias suddenly starts slurring his words and staggers before having a seizure. They realize that the Commandment has poisoned him. Laia blocks his mouth with a rag so that he will not bite his tongue and uses a vial of medicine to cleanse his wound.
