Summary

Elias sees Helene in the crowd and decides to run away as a diversion, so that that she does not realize Afya and Tribe Nur are aiding the group on their mission to travel to the prison. He sees that no one is being trampled or harmed and realizes that the riot has been carefully planned to put Helene in an impossible situation, given her limited troops: if she calls more Martial soldiers to put down the riot, she will not be able to maintain her cordon around the city. Helene spots Elias and fights her way through the crowd toward him, attacking Tribesmen with her scim as she goes. She is soon surrounded by dozens of Tribesmen, and Elias, pulling a cloak over himself as a disguise, attempts to save her. He pulls her away from the crowd.
