Point of View
We Do Not Part is written from the first-person point of view of the main character Kyungha. This means that all of the narrative events are filtered through Kyungha's perspective. The way that she sees, interacts with, and processes the world around her in turn dictates the narrative structure, form, tension, and action. Most notably, because Kyungha is a writer, she has an imaginative way of perceiving reality. She is also attuned to the minute details of her surroundings. The way she describes her world authenticates her writerly identity. For example, in Part I, Chapter 2, when she and Inseon are watching the snow together, she remarks that “Snow had an unreality to it. Was this because of its pace or its beauty? There was an accompanying clarity to snow as well, especially slow, drifting snow” (31). Throughout the subsequent chapters, Kyungha remains attuned to the snow...
