Summary

In Part II, Chapter 1, “We Do Not Part,” Kyungha wakes up and looks out over the landscape. She feels as if Jeju is no longer an island and cannot understand what is happening. Meanwhile, the snow continues. However, her fever is gone and her “headache and nausea [have] subsided” (137). She gets up and fills some pots with water in case the water goes out. Then, she hears Ama and discovers her in her cage. She remembers burying her and knows she could not have escaped. She wonders if it was all a dream. While watching Ama eat, she tries to determine what is real.
