Chapter 14, Alama Gulch Summary

Lee and Grumman sail over Cittàgazze and Grumman explains about the Specters and the children. Lee wants to help a child who is very close to being eaten by the Specters, but Grumman insists that he keep going. Lee reminds Grumman of his promise that the knife will be used to protect Lyra. Grumman says that the knife will protect everyone.

Lee's balloon is spotted and he flies faster to try and outrun the enemies even though he knows this is not possible. Zeppelins show up and Lee explains to Grumman that they will have to land soon in the hills. Grumman causes a storm to blow in and a bolt of lightening strikes the zeppelin, causing it to catch on fire. However, they are still being pursued.

Lee is landing in less-than-ideal conditions and warns Dr. Grumman...
