Chapter 10, The Shaman Summary

Lee Scoresby goes in search of Grumman. The world is continuing to change and the hunters and fishermen cannot catch the animals they once did. Lee travels up the Yenisei River to find Grumman's village, which he does. The villagers have been expecting someone to take Grumman to another world, but tell him that the man they call Jopari is sick. Dr. Grumman emerges from his hut with his osprey daemon, and Lee tells him about his search for Lyra. Grumman explains that the name "Jopari" is his own name, John Parry, and confirms that Lee is indeed supposed to take him to another world, and then shows Lee a ring that belonged to Lee's mother.
