Chapter 3, A Children's World Summary

Will and Lyra see two humans, the first in this new world. They are children, Angelica and her brother Paolo. They say the name of their town, Cittàgazze, and the younger child, Paolo, starts to talk about their brother, Tullio, but Angelica strikes him to keep him from talking. Angelica explains about Specters, evil creatures that feed on grownups but do no harm to children.

As they make plans to return to Oxford, Will explains to Lyra that he is hiding and then, angrily, tells her he has his own tasks to perform in his world and if she goes with him to look for scholars, then she will have to be inconspicuous.
