Chapter 5, Airmail Paper Summary

As two police officers "with suspicious eyes" come towards Will and Lyra, Lyra throws them off the scent by explaining that she and Will are siblings and are trying to find a museum. Lyra explains to Will that she did a good thing and made the policemen go away, but Will is furious at the way she drew attention to herself. He accuses her of not being serious. Lyra counters that she is indeed being serious and is helping him to find his father. Then she demonstrates how she uses the alethiometer. She lets Will know that his mother is safe, that Will took some letters, and confirms that the thief in the house is dead. Will is angered also by the lack of privacy, but Lyra assures him that she would never try to find out anything about...
