The Murmuring Surf

The Murmuring Surf is the hotel owned by Ava and where Letty stays with Maya. The motel is more than 60 years old and tends to cater to groups of older people who are guests for an entire season. Ava gives Letty an overview of the motel's history, including how and when several units were added. Letty and Maya move into an old storage unit and Letty soon begins to take on some of the work at the hotel, giving Ava the freedom to run errands or visit with friends. Several major events happen here, including that Maya is briefly kidnapped and Letty and Joe fall in love. As the novel comes to an end, Letty buys the hotel and marries Joe directly across the street at the beach.
