Summary

In Chapter 7, Joe runs the license plate on the Kia and finds it is registered to a man in South Carolina. Later, he runs Letty's name and finds the article about Tanya's murder. Joe knows he should make the phone call to report Letty's whereabouts, but he feels there must be more to her story. Relying on that intuition, he decides to gather more information. Maya and Letty spend some time on the beach. When Maya asks about her mother, Letty explains she is in heaven. When she feels incapable of answering Maya's questions, she distracts her with lunch. While Maya naps, Letty thinks about the future. She needs a job soon but does not know how to manage a job and take care of Maya.
