Part Two, Chapters Twelve and Thirteen

In Chapter Twelve, Jonah and Robert begin discussing Jules’ “prayer” over the sick Dennis. This discussion about prayer transforms into a discussion of when the two met and the first time they had sex together. The topic of the chapter them turns to Cathy as Jonah thinks of the similarities of the group of friends sitting together in the emergency room and the night they sat together in the police department. He wonders where Cathy is and what she is doing. He remembers feeling guilty about what happened between Cathy and Goodman that night, the way that Ethan feels guilty about Dennis getting sick.
