Section 9: Chapters 21 and 22 Summary

In Chapter 21: Blood Wedding, preparations are made for Steven and Emilia's wedding which had been decreed by El Patron. Matt hides behind a pillar to watch the guests arrive, noticing only Maria who slips through the crowd, and he follows Maria to the music room where she hugs him and tells him about school. Matt explains how he is different from other clones, but his mind numbs with despair at the idea of Maria marrying Tom when she tells him that El Patron has arranged for her to do so. Matt shows Maria "A History of Opium", and Maria is shocked by the evidence that her mother is still alive. Matt suggests Maria can contact her mother who can save her from marrying Tom.
