Section 4: Chapters 8, 9 & 10 Summary

In Chapter 8: The Eejit In The Dry Field, Matt excitedly chatters about everything he sees as he rides through the poppy fields with Tam Lin. When they reach the hills that border the fields, they dismount and walk the rest of the way to a small valley with a pool of water in its center. Tam Lin explains that Matt is El Patron's clone; skin had been taken from El Patron and grown into a new baby, so Matt is exactly like El Patron when he was seven years old. Since no school would accept a clone and no private teacher would teach a clone, the Alacrans hired an eejit, a person with an implant in their head who can only do simple things, to teach Matt.
