Section 6: Chapters 13 and 14 Summary

In Chapter 13: The Lotus Pond, Matt rushes to Celia and tells her everything that happened at the hospital because he is upset and needs to talk to someone. Celia explains that clones are injected with a drug that destroys their brains, and since Matt is the only clone without such an injection, he feels special and unique and is filled with gratitude for El Patron. Matt is confident that Maria will understand if he can get her alone and explain that he is different from other clones, but he must act quickly because she is returning to boarding school soon. Matt decides to kidnap Furball and leave a ransom note for Maria. Though he steals laudanum from Felicia's closet, he does not use it. That night, Matt sneaks to the lotus pond to meet Maria and return Furball, but...
