In Old Age: 12-14, Chapter 15: A Starved Bird, to escape his boredom one day, Matt rides to the oasis where he finds a large metal chest and a note from Tam Lin which says he was forced to leave with El Patron but has left supplies because Matt never knows when he might need them. Matt returns to chaos at the house because El Viejo is dead, and El Patron insists upon Matt and Celia's presence at the funeral.
