Destiny

The idea that a person is destined for a certain fate is one of the main themes of "Taggerung." The book opens with the description of the traditional beliefs of the Juska clan that a young creature will be born who is destined to become the Taggerung, a legendary warrior who arises once a generation as a champion of the vermin. According to Grissoul, the fortune teller, this creature will be from Redwall Abbey and will have a certain mark on it shaped like a flower. She also foresees that the creature will be found at a shallow place in the river near Redwall. When Sawney and his crew go to the shallow place and find the young Deyna, a creature from Redwall, with the mark on his paw that Grissoul said would be there, it appears that the young otter is indeed the fulfillment of the Juska...
