Chapters 29-31 Summary

In Chapter 29, the vermin continue to pelt the Abbey with stones and call out they have taken Nimbalo prisoner and will kill him if they do not give up the Taggerung. Inside, Mhera volunteers to speak with the vermin, but Cregga takes the job on herself. She goes to the wall and stands in plain sight. Vallug draws an arrow and points it at her. He does not believe her when she says they do not know what the Taggerung is, or when she says they now now creature named Nimbalo. Meanwhile, Nimbalo has worked free from his bonds and grabbed the axe from Dagrab. He strikes Vallug on the elbow and Vallug releases his arrow, striking Cregga.
