Chapters 35-37, Epilogue Summary

In Chapter 35 Ruggan and his clan arrive at the old camp site, but of course do no find the body of the Taggerung. Gruven changes his story slightly and says he threw the head into a stream in the woods and threw the body into a swamp. Ruggan holds Gruven and sends some scouts to look for the swamp. Meanwhile, he has his fortunetellers read the future. One of them tells him that whoever kills the Taggerung will be the champion of the clan and named Taggerung himself.

Ruggan's scouts return from the swamp with Rawback, who has somehow escaped sinking. While Ruggan has Gruven held, Rawback tells the story of the ditch and how he saw Vallug struck down. He also tells how Gruven fled and left him to die in the swamp. Gruven replies that it was...
