The Ball

The book opens at a ball. Alexia is attacked by a vampire. She has to neutralize him and then he dies. No one knows who he is. The reader is shocked that Alexia is more upset that he didn't introduce himself with proper manners than that he had tried to suck her blood.

Hyde Park

Ivy and Alexia walk in the park and seeing things that are being invented. Ivy and Alexia watch people landing in the dirigible the first time. Later MacDougall will drive Alexia to the park in his carriage that is full of inventions.
