Chapter Five Summary

Chapter five begins with the kiss between Alexia and Maccon. Once was not enough for Maccon, and he takes hold of her chin and begins a much more intimate kiss than Alexia had ever experienced. The kiss included Maccon's tongue; Alexia found she liked it. They grew more intimate and neither of them remembered they were on a public street. As Maccon's hands were exploring Alexia's body to her delight, Lyall interrupted them. Maccon told him to go away but Lyall wouldn't. He had news to impart that couldn't wait. After Lyall told Maccon about the disappearance of the roves around the Canterbury district, Alexia remembered to tell about the maid's master.
